EGAN Medical Targets Alabama News Readers Online with New Ad Campaign

EGAN Medical to Target Alabama Residents

EGAN Medical has decided to try an experiment involving online classifieds published in the online versions of legitimate print media publications. To begin with, EGAN published a basic ad for the award-winning Prenatal Cradle maternity support at AL.com, the primary news website geotargeted to the state of Alabama, a state in which EGAN Medical executive director Peter Egan coincidentally resided and attended journalism school for the better part of two years.
EGAN Medical Equipment & Supply

EGAN, upon learning of its inclusion in Health Tech's 2012 Top Healthcare and Medical companies list, created a number of classified advertisements promoting individual medical equipment, nutritional or orthopedic products. These product listings can be accessed from the company's main listing page, which is located at the following uniform resource locator (URL): http://www.jazdhealthcare.com/healthtech/company/EGAN-Medical-Equipment-and-Supply.htm?supplierId=20014334

Fingertip-style pulse oximeters, ankle walker boots and vitamin D3 supplements were among the products listed at the EGAN Medical page at Health Tech's JazdHealthcare site.

This isn't the first time EGAN has experimented with online newspaper classified ads. The company tried a brief stint with NOLA (dot com), the Times Picayune's online affiliate website. Out of principle, EGAN withdrew these advertisements once the Times Picayune announced that the paper would cease to exist as a daily publication, opting instead for three print days per week - a schedule to which EGAN Medical firmly objects.

If the current ventures show promise, EGAN may be inclined to expand upon the idea of third-party classified niche advertising on the websites of established newspapers.

The Long Reach Comfort Wipe is an extended self-wiping toilet aide designed to assist people with disabilities, restricted range-of-motion and/or obese people with the highly personal yet extremely important task of wiping themselves after using the facility. The Long Reach Comfort Wipe wiping aide for obese and disabled individuals is ergonomically designed to help those who have trouble cleansing themselves after use of the restroom achieve an optimal degree of cleanliness without creating a mess in the process.

This unique toilet aide is 15.75" in length, and features a convenient release button to easily discard toilet paper/tissue, pre-moistened in a quick, sanitary manner.
Personal Hygiene: Long Reach Comfort Wipe Extended Toilet Tissue Wiping Aide
An argument can be made that the Long Reach is the top extended-reach toilet aide on the market, when one factors in its length, ergonomic design, comfortable surface and unique push-button release mechanism. Another reason the Long Reach Comfort Wipe is among the top-selling personal hygiene products in its class is due to its price, which is extremely reasonable at just $13.50 per unit, the EGAN Medical price. Other retailers, both online and in-store may and in all likelihood do charge more for the product, but customers can avoid paying extra by shopping at EganMedical.com as opposed to Walgreens or CVS, where the same items cost up to TWO and THREE TIMES AS MUCH!!!

This quality-of-life-enhancing bathroom device can be purchased directly from the website of Egan Medical Equipment, and can be found in both the "Personal Aids" and "Cleansing Products" categories.

Customer Review: Prenatal Cradle by It's You Babe

"On top of the speedy shipment and A+ service, their (EGAN's) price was about $12 less than the next best price I could find." ~ Desiree Lewis of Eugene, Oregon

My pregnancy was extremely difficult. There were a few complications, and I definitely think it was the most challenging period I've ever had to endure in life. The Prenatal Cradle by It's You Babe made my life SO MUCH easier I can't even begin to describe it.

My mom had bought my two other maternity supports before I ordered a prenatal cradle from Egan Medical. Neither of them helped, and one even caused me pain in one of the few places I wasn't already hurting.

Prenatal Cradle by It's You BabeThe prenatal cradle felt like it was custom-designed to fit my body. It provided support everywhere that I needed it, and really surprised me with how much it helped relieve pain and stress on my back. Every singly part of my body hurt less after a day wearing a PC than it did before I started wearing it. As I got further and further along in my pregnancy, the amount of relief this seemingly simple undergarment brought me just seemed to increase proportionately to the size of my breasts and belly.

I highly recommend this product for any woman who is pregnant and in pain, or even women who aren't in tremendous pain but would like to engage in more physical activity than they can without the help of a maternity support such as the prenatal cradle.

As for where to buy, I was obviously very pleased with my experience with Egan Medical Supply, or else I probably wouldn't be writing this review.

I'm a bargain hunter, and I also like to deal with companies I can trust will ship on time and provide service after the sale. Egan had my order in my mailbox within three days, and they even let me exchange my original order for a larger size and covered the cost of the replacement shipment. I didn't expect them to do that, but the people I spoke with were very friendly and obviously hooked it up.

On top of the speedy shipment and A+ service, their price was about $12 less than the next best price I could find. Not sure how this company makes money, but from a customer's standpoint - especially that of an expecting, newlywed mom-to-be who is not particularly wealthy and who has to make every dollar count - Egan Medical was a Godsend. The next time I need anything they sell, chances are I'm going to get it from them. Though the prenatal cradle and vitamins are all I've purchased from them, my experience was so uncommonly positive that I do consider myself a loyal customer and hope to remain one for a long time to come.

They gave me a coupon for free shipping on some prenatal vitamins. The vitamins were kind of expensive, but they were the same price everywhere else I looked, and from what I gather are very high quality and far superior to grocery store or drug store vitamins, which don't absorb well at all.

Long Beach (MS) New Home to EGAN Medical E-Commerce Fulfillment Center

EGAN Medical, a leading supplier of medical supplies, equipment, orthopedic, maternity care and other health care products has announced the grand opening of the company's newest addition, a shipping and e-commerce order fulfillment center located in downtown Long Beach, Mississippi. Unlike the company's long-established brick-and-mortar storefront in Covington, LA, the new facility will not be open to walk-in traffic. Rather, its purpose will be to serve as staging-grounds for the processing and shipping of orders, as well as a customer service center for internet-based shoppers. The medical equipment and supply firm's Covington storefront will remain open to walk-ins, while the Mississippi location will specialize in assisting online customers, promptly shipping online orders and managing the company's e-commerce inventory.

Long Beach was chosen as the location for the firm's second location due to its scenic beauty, warm, sunny weather and its proximity to the beach itself. EGAN Medical executive director Peter Egan has an outspoken fondness of the beach, sun and fishing, and Long Beach offered enough of all three to lure him away from Louisiana to the Mississippi coast for his personal residence. Rather than continue to commute three hours each day round-trip, Egan decided to place a stronger emphasis on e-commerce, opening the order fulfillment center just a four-minute drive from his home. This constitutes a dramatic transition in the firm's core business model, representing a brazen attempt to convert from being a strategically located brick-and-mortar medical equipment company located next to St. Tammany Parish Hospital to being a competitor on the national stage and on the internet.

Despite the company's increased emphasis on online sales and the opening of the new Mississippi coast facility, the changes do not amount to a move away from Louisiana or away from servicing the medical equipment and supply needs of Washington and St. Tammany Parish residents. A company spokesman issued a statement assuring Louisiana residents that the medical equipment store they've come to depend on will remain open for the foreseeable future, and that the company has no imminent plans for a permanent move, nor any plans to close the Louisiana storefront.

As always, shipping is free for Louisiana residents who select 'Free In-Store Pickup' from the shipping menu. Customers who choose to take advantage of this offer are asked to refrain from actually driving to the store to pick up their purchases. Virtually all orders placed online are shipped out within 1-2 business days of purchase, and customers who buy online will receive their items by mail or other home (or business) delivery. Across-the-board free shipping offer is only valid for residents of Louisiana and coastal Mississippi (counties which border the Gulf of Mexico).

Customers outside of Louisiana and Mississippi may still order online via the Egan Medical website, and Egan still offers shipping to all 50 U.S. states and Canada.

Egan Medical Customer Reviews

EGAN MEDICAL: Here's What Our Customers Have to Say About Us

The following are a collection of reviews by real Egan Medical Equipment customers. The reviews were not solicited in any way, shape, manner or form, and it is our belief that this sampling represents a snapshot of what customers have come to expect when ordering medical equipment, supplies and supplements from Egan, and what those who've not yet had the good fortune of doing business with us can expect upon placing their first order with us.

5/31/2012 5/5 Stars! "I have a physically disabled child and have found the incontinence and medical equipment obtained from Egan Medical Equipment & Supply to be of the highest quality and very affordable.  Of special note is the reusable bed pads that we have found to last through several years of use and washing.  Another invaluable product is the ReadyBath Basics disposable cleansing cloths that we use when full bathing is not feasible." Martha H. (Folsom, LA)

9/13/2012 5/5 Stars! "I ordered the Prenatal Pack prenatal vitamins from Egan Medical and was very happy with the product. I was concerned when I opened the box and saw the huge jar and then I found that the vitamins come in individually wrapped dosages. So I can just throw a few packs in my bag and I'm good to travel! Shipping was prompt. Service was not an issue. Overall good experience, great product, and more importantly excellent deal! I would do business again. I actually just ordered a few more pregnancy items."  Melissa M. (Slidell, LA)

9/20/2012

I ordered two wrist braces from Eagan Medical, and I will definitely be doing business with them again.

While the braces I ordered didn't fit properly - an issue that appears to be the fault of the manufacturer as they use the manufacturer's measurement chart - the customer service was outstanding. They exchanged both braces for two new ones one size bigger at no cost to me. They paid for the return shipment (emailed me the label so I just had to print tape it to the same box they arrived in), and they also paid to ship me the replacements.

I received a response to the email I sent inquiring about the possibility of an exchange exactly one hour and eight minutes after I had sent it, and that same day I received another email with a tracking number for the shipment of the two replacements. They shipped the replacements the same day I emailed to ask if I could exchange the ones I ordered initially. I received the package the very next day.

Even though the prices were only about average, I will definitely do business with them the next time I need medical products. They shipped me the replacements with no guarantee that I would even return the first ones they sent me. I theoretically could have kept all four of them even though I only paid for two. I asked about this and was told that their priority was to make sure I had the medical supplies I needed as soon as possible, and that they trusted that I would in fact return the original order.

I've never heard of a company doing that. Normally, the way exchanges work is that the company ships when they receive the merchandise that is being exchanged, usually inspecting it before shipping out the replacements. While it might not be the best business practice, the fact that they placed my needs ahead of their own made a lasting impression, and I don't mind paying $1.50-$2.00 more when the service is as good as this.

Aside from the outstanding customer service and speedy delivery, the box contained a bunch of stuff I didn't order but found useful nonetheless. This included a handful of Biofreeze (a topical pain reliever) samples, a nail file with their company logo, a sample bottle of Ecotrin heart aspirin and a company ink pen. Sure, I didn't really need any of it, but it's the little things that really mean the most in life, and this company really made a positive impression on me.

There's nothing I hate more than sitting on hold, being transferred from person to person, none of whom are able, much less willing to help; the goal apparently being to encourage the customer to give up by wasting an hour (or more) of their time before letting them speak to anyone with the authority to fix a problem. Eagan Medical's customer service was the exact opposite of what I've come to expect from my cable company and from big internet companies. Probably the best service I've ever encountered from an internet-based business.  Katie S.  (Gulfport, MS)

So, the bottom line is that the next time we truthfully and accurately claim to be vastly superior to the meager nuisances who call themselves competitors, don't just take our word for it. Instead, why not listen to (or read) the actual testimony of a small sampling of the tens of thousands of customers we've satisfied without one single bona fide complaint.

EGAN Medical to Offer Special Pricing on Ebay

EGAN Medical has announced a plan to begin auctioning off various medical supplies, equipment and related healthcare products on the world's largest online auction site, Ebay.

The company recently opened a storefront on Ebay to compliment its existing standalone e-commerce website, and will be targeting the Ebay userbase with a variety of products spanning a number of categories. Products offered for sale through the company's Ebay storefront may feature special pricing below the already heavily discounted rate at which EGAN Medical products are usually available through the company's main website.

Some examples of products which sold recently or currently available for purchase through the EGAN Medical Ebay Store, entitled Egan Healthcare, are Littmann Master Cardiology Stethoscopes, various Crocs brand shoes, Prenatal Cradle maternity support undergarments and memory foam neck pillows. The aforementioned constitute only a small percentage of the total number of medical equipment and medical supply items available through the Ebay Store, and the goal of the store is to offer customers a fun way to save for those willing to invest the additional effort.

One customer was able to obtain the Littmann Master Cardiology Stethoscope for just $139.00 with free shipping. Any way you look at it, that's a great deal.

While not always the case, EGAN Medical frequently helps raise money for charitable purposes such as for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and the Safe Harbor Northshore organization. Safe Harbor provides shelter, food and other amenities for abused and battered women, children and victims of human trafficking.

In closing, EGAN Medical would like to encourage customers to have a look at it's Ebay Store. While no guarantees are offered, depending upon what it is you're looking for, there may well be some deals that are too good to pass up awaiting your arrival, but only while supplies last.

EGAN Medical Back to Full-Speed Following Hurricane-Soaked Week

While the past week-and-a-half have been extremely trying for EGAN Medical's ownership and all of its employees, we are pleased to report that while Hurricane Isaac left us soaked and without power, our facilities sustained no permanent damage from the storm, and we are now back at full capacity.

Unfortunately the same cannot be said for the homes of EGAN employees, some of whose homes took on considerable water as a result of Isaac's storm surge. Our hearts and prayers go out to those employees, and we eagerly (and patiently) await their arrival back at work.

In the meantime, we have managed to find temporary replacements for everyone whose homes were destroyed by Isaac's floodwaters, and we are pleased to report that EGAN Medical is now back at full operating capacity. Customers who had attempted to contact us during the downtime will be contacted by one of our representatives at some point today and tomorrow, and any customers who placed orders during the week disrupted by the Hurricane will be offered the option of receiving a refund instead of the scheduled shipment as a result of the prolonged downtime.

Eligible orders include those placed between Friday, August 24 and Thursday, August 30. Customers seeking a refund instead of a shipment due to the storm-related delays and who placed their orders between August 24 and August 30 are asked to make known their preference before the start of the work day Thursday, September 06. Emailed preference notifications received before 9:00 AM (central time) on September 06 will be honored provided they meet the specified eligibility criteria for the refund.

EGAN Medical would like to thank all of our customers for your patience, thoughts, prayers and understanding during this difficult time.

EGAN Medical Bracing for Hurricane Isaac

Due to Hurricane Isaac bearing down on Southeast Louisiana and Southwest Mississippi on virtually no notice whatsoever, EGAN Medical will be temporarily discontinuing all shipping operations until after the storm has passed and post offices around the Gulf South have reopened. The changes are effective Monday, August 27, 2012.

Orders placed late Friday-through-Sunday may ship early Monday, but we unfortunately cannot make any guarantees due to the total annihilation of everything from the last hurricane that struck here in late August. Even if the items ship on time, there is a good chance they'll be destroyed if all of the post offices in the area flood once again, as they did in 2005.

Customers whose orders do not make it to their respective destinations in a timely manner will be given the option of receiving a refunded payment or receiving their shipment at the first possible opportunity following the reopening of the EGAN Medical shipping facility in Long Beach (MS).

We apologize for any inconvenience caused to those who placed orders over the course of the past weekend, but we cannot afford to take any chances with failing to evacuate in a timely manner given the grace consequences of failure to do so the last time. The safety of our employees and their families is our top priority as we brace ourselves for another major storm.

Hopefully, the Isaac will do a 180, turn back around and head back out into the Atlantic without making landfall along the Gulf Coast, however we are preparing as though the storm will wreak devastation equal to or worse than that caused by Katrina.

On that note, each EGAN Medical employee was issued a 183-Piece First Aid Kit on Monday morning in preparation for the storm.

We pray that none actually have to use it at any point during their respective evacuations or during the storm if riding it out at home.

Vitamin D3 Supplements the Key to Boosting Testosterone Levels in Men?

Vitamin D Levels Linked to Testosterone in Men

A recent study conducted by a team from Harvard University has shown an association between increased vitamin D intake by way of D3 supplements and substantial increases in testosterone levels in men. The study was published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology.

One of the most interesting things to note about the study, about which more information can be found here, is that many if not most of the high-priced medicines and various nutritional supplements which are indicated for increasing testosterone levels in men may not be needed after all in order for their respective target audiences to achieve the desired result.

If vitamin D3 supplements can increase testosterone levels safely and naturally and by a substantial margin at that, there is little-to-no need for men to go out and spend hundreds of dollars on expensive supplements, doctors visits and various medications when a $8-$20 bottle of quality vitamin D3 supplements is all that is needed to accomplish the stated goal of boosting testosterone levels in men who suffer from low testosterone.

Vitamin D and Testosterone
The study was careful to note that more research is needed in order to determine causality. What is meant by that is that whether low vitamin D leads to low testosterone or whether vitamin D straight-up boosts testosterone levels is not yet known, and that which causes the resulting effect is unknown as of this time.

That said, the causality argument is irrelevant to men suffering from low testosterone. Ample evidence exists to suggest that one safe and natural way to reverse the problem is to get out in the sun and start taking some high-quality vitamin D3 supplements in order to boost blood-levels of vitamin D. This should be sufficient to improve testosterone levels, at least according to the existing research.

Censored Review From Egan Medical Customer "Martha H"

Since Yelp for whatever reason decided to censor the one and only review of Egan Medical appearing on this apparently dormant consumer review website, we decided in the name of transparency and free speech to publish it here, on the Egan Medical blog.

While we do know with certainty that no one employed by or in any way affiliated with Egan Medial in any way encouraged Ms. H to review us on Yelp, much less write such a glowing review that casts us in an extremely positive light, we cannot state with certainty that some unrelated individual with no ties to our company may have for reasons unknown to us done something to entice her into issuing her statements. Granted, this person would have no apparent incentive for doing so, but that is apparently of little interest to the censors at Yelp who decide which companies can receive favorable reviews and which cannot.

Anyway, without further adieu, here is the review that aroused so much controversy:

Author: Martha H. from Folsom, LA

Review of Egan Medical Supply:
  • Martha H.
Folsom, LA
5/31/2012
"I have a physically disabled child and have found the incontinence and medical equipment obtained from Egan Medical Equipment & Supply to be of the highest quality and very affordable.  Of special note is the reusable bed pads that we have found to last through several years of use and washing.  Another invaluable product is the ReadyBath Basics disposable cleansing cloths that we use when full bathing is not feasible."

So, the above is the controversial review Yelp deemed too outrageous for public consumption, opting to censor the review and shield it from the public's eyes.

Is Martha really a covert plant whose only goal is to mislead consumers into thinking Egan Medical is a company that provides quality products at affordable prices to go along with unmatched customer service? Or did she really mean what she wrote in the unsolicited review? That's for you to decide...

Is Yelp Censoring Natural, Unsolicited Reviews?

Unfortunate as it may be, and for reasons that remain unclear as of this time, the consumer review website Yelp appears to be censoring natural, unsolicited reviews for which no incentive was provided by the company being reviewed, nor was the consumer asked by the company to write the review.

Positive Reviews Censored by Yelp
During a routine visit to monitor what our customers are saying about us, an Egan Medical team member observed that a review written by a customer named "Martha H" from Folsom, LA, was removed from Egan Medical's review page and relegated to an obscure section of the Yelp website called "Filtered Reviews". This is unfortunate, as each and every Egan Medical employee was personally asked about the review or if they had any knowledge of its creation. Not one Egan employee knows who Martha H is, nor can anyone remember her coming into the store. She was certainly not asked by any Egan Medical employee to write her flattering review, but apparently thought enough of our products, prices and world-class service to take time out of her day to write an objective review of her experience with our company.

Martha had apparently purchased a variety of products from Egan, including waterproof reusable bed pads (Invacare Supply Group brand, 24" x 34" size) and Medline's ReadyBath Basics complete, pre-moistened sponge bath system. The lady also wrote about purchasing other unspecified incontinence supplies which also met or exceeded her expectations for quality and price. No one currently employed by Egan Medical remembers the lady, although several customers have made purchases which included both of the aforementioned products.

Unfortunately, Yelp apparently has employees who solicit bribes from companies in exchange for hiding favorable reviews of their competitors, as there is simply no other explanation for how a review that was genuinely written without the knowledge or consent of anyone employed by or in any way representative of Egan Medical could be cast aside in such a way so as to imply that Egan Medical engaged in forbidden tactics, bribes and/or dirty tricks in exchange for a favorable review. As absurd as this may seem to our customers, it is with regret that we must acknowledge that Yelp actually went to this great an extent to smear and besmirch the reputation of a company whose customers would gladly vouch for the unbeatable service provided were they to be contacted anonymously and asked about their experience.

While Egan Medical continues to move closer to the company's goal of one day becoming the world leader in online medical equipment, supplies and supplements; the reality of the situation is that we're still a very small company which treats customers the way they should be treated --- with respect, dignity, a touch of personal service and a commitment toward ensuring that each and every customer is satisfied at the end of the day with his or her experience with our organization.

The fact that our only Yelp review was very positive speaks volumes about our company. That Yelp deemed it appropriate to remove it and imply without any factual basis whatsoever that Egan Medical somehow facilitated the placement of a fake review speaks volumes about the type of people it (Yelp) hires, and the criminally reckless and irresponsible lengths they will go to in order to earn an extra few dollars from overzealous companies hell-bent on preventing competitors' customers from writing honest, sincere and unsolicited reviews about a local retailer which provided them with high-quality products at a very affordable price.

That Egan Medical has only been reviewed once on Yelp is perhaps an even stronger indicator of just how irrelevant Yelp is as a viable means for consumers to access information about the credibility and trustworthiness of a given company.

If Egan's one customer review was so easily removed by a Yelp employee almost certainly on the payroll of a competing medical equipment company, it tells this author that the entire site is a pool of digital piranhas with no regard for truth, accuracy or fairness.

Egan Medical strongly discourages our customers from using Yelp in any capacity --- whether it be for the purpose of reviewing an unrelated company or our own business. That goes regardless of whether the review would cast us in a favorable or unflattering light (as remarkably unlikely as the latter scenario is, it's still worth including for the sake of completeness).

We at Egan Medical do not care what Yelp thinks about our customers or what they have to say about our products and our service, and we would encourage all customers who feel compelled to review us to do so at EganMedical.com. For customers who would rather review us on an objective third-party site, we strongly encourage these individuals to do so at any 3rd party review site other than Yelp. We don't care which, so long as our customers are not contributing to the corruption and slander by implication that defines the cesspool that is Yelp.

For what it's worth, as of the time of this writing Egan Medical has never received a single complaint from a customer who reviewed us online. We have observed countless positive reviews posted at any number of different sites by customers to whom we are extremely grateful but whom we did not in any way incentivize or encourage to review us.

If Yelp cares one lick about its credibility, it will issue a written apology to Egan Medical and to Martha H, and will cease and desist from suggesting that Ms. H's flattering review was in any way planned, coordinated, paid for or in any other way manipulated by Egan Medical or any of its employees.

What Makes Egan Medical Equipment Superior to the Competition?

Egan Medical Equipment: We Don't Just Claim to Be the Best

Egan Medical strives to offer only the very best products at the very best prices. Our experienced staff of healthcare professionals with specialties ranging from registered nurses, to physical, occupational and respiratory therapists to certified diabetes educators to doctors and nurse practitioners help determine which brands and which products we carry based on quality and cost-effectiveness.

At Egan, our customers are never greeted by an automated machine. Someone knowledgeable about our products, policies and procedures answers and will always answer every single call without exception. Customers will not be subjected to waiting on hold for extended periods of time, and the overwhelming majority of calls get through directly on the first try. If you happen to call when all lines are busy, one of our representatives will call you back the moment a line opens up. We will NEVER force our customers to go through people who don't know what's going on and aren't authorized to make a decision even if they were knowledgeable when you call Egan with questions or for assistance.

Add to all of that the fact that our prices are among the most competitive in the industry and its easy to see why Egan Medical has become one of America's leading online retailers of home medical equipment products, medical supplies, supports, braces and nutritional supplements in just 14 months since the online division was launched (the main company has been in existence since 1988).

We genuinely are better than the competition in every way, shape, manner and form, and we'd like for you to give us an opportunity to prove it. We think you'll be pleasantly surprised at the extent to which you'll feel like you've stepped into a time machine and went back to the days when people were courteous and businesses treated their customers with utmost respect.

We're a family business, and we always have been and always will be. We are your neighbors, your friends, your family. We're regular people, and we just happen to know an awful lot about healthcare and medical equipment. Our products are as 21st century as it gets, but our customer service has remained in an era when people answered phones and customers were always right. As long as I run this company, and hopefully long after I'm gone, that is one thing that's not going to change.

Egan Medical Reaches Out to Local Media Online

We here at Egan Medical were extremely disappointed, disgusted and dismayed to learn of the Times Picayune's asinine decision to reduce publishing from seven to three days per week. While we do not anticipate the companies that will take over what once was America's best newspaper (in terms of the quality of the journalism itself) will succeed beyond three or four months before the new model implodes, we are experimenting with new features debuted on the paper's affiliate website to see if we can help prevent the seemingly inevitable bankruptcy of the paper that Egan's Executive Director has read every morning of his life since age four.

One interesting feature to recently debut on the site is a Classifieds section that enables people and businesses to create classifieds using an HTML editor as well as the ability to create classified listings of lengths far in excess of those sized for print.

Egan has created three such listings as an experimental trial. Depending upon how things go with these three listings, the company may or may not decide to invest into the program, with the goal of creating pages for some or all of Egan Medical's wide selection of medical equipment, medical supplies, orthopedic supports & braces, nutritional supplements and other healthcare-related products.

Only time will tell. One component of the classifieds system that we here at Egan are less-than-thrilled about is the 30-day nature of the ad. Why set a time limit? If the user is going to go through the trouble associated with creating a good listing, then why not allow the page created by the user to remain online until the item has been sold?

Sure, it can be removed from the top of the listings page as it ages, but leaving it online would do more justice to the person who took the time to create free content for the online division of the Picayune.

As per Egan Medical's experiment, the company's marketing leadership has decided to create listings for three of Egan's more popular items, and three which the competition (to refer to them as such is flattery beyond what is merited, but out of civility we'll overstate their significance as such) is completely and utterly unable to compete with Egan's prices dollar-for-dollar for the same exact items.

The products selected for the trial are as follows:
    Extended-Reach Toilet Wiping Aide
    Extended Wiper for Obese People
  1. Cervical Traction Device: Select Brand Over-Door Style Cervical Traction Set is a product intended to help people with neck injuries straighten out the spinal alignment near the neck, helping to reduce pain and ideally also help with the healing process of the injury itself.
  2. Extended-Reach Toilet Wiping Aide: The Long Reach Comfort Wipe is arguable the most high-quality AND cost-effective bathroom/wiping aide available on the medical supply market today. At just $13.50, it is priced at about 1/3 of what Egan's competitors charge for the same product, and features a comfortable, ergonomic design that extends reach by nearly 16 inches, helping the obese, disabled and those with dexterity issues achieve the same degree of cleanliness most everyone else takes for granted.
  3. Support Harness for Pregnant Women: The Prenatal Cradle is easily among the most popular of all of Egan Medical's numerous, high-quality maternity support products. It comes is a total of nine different sizes, with at least one that's perfect for virtually every woman of every shape and size. Out of thousands of these items sold over the years, Egan has yet to receive one single customer complaint about the quality of the product (and we never receive complaints about the quality of our service).
If the aforementioned product listings at the Times Picayune's new online classified site produce any legitimate leads from real customers and not from the advertisers hoping to convince the merchants that their site is referring customers, Egan may take a good, hard look at making this a staple of the company's local outreach efforts.

Egan already offers free local delivery to residents of Southeast Louisiana and Hancock and Harrison Counties along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Despite the fact that the organization has promoted the free shipping program in a number of different media, as well as via a large banner affixed to the front of the storefront itself, most local customers appear to prefer to pay for shipping fees themselves, for reasons known only to themselves.

In any case, customers seeking to find an exclusive deal not found on at EganMedical.com, this blog or any of Egan's numerous social presences might want to take a look at the online affiliate website of the Times Picayune and see what specials are available from Louisiana's leading online provider of medical supplies and equipment - and one of America's fastest-growing medical equipment/supply firms - Egan Medical, the little store on Tyler Street in Covington with the blue banner stretching across the length of the building.

NOTE:  While Egan Medical is based in Covington, Louisiana, the company does business primarily outside the state, with customers placing their orders online from across the USA, Canada, Ireland and the UK.

How to Reduce the Number of Babies Born Addicted to Drugs

Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome

According to a study appearing in the Journal of the American Medical Association conducted by a team of researchers from the universities of Pittsburgh and Michigan, about one baby per hour was born addicted to opioid drugs during the 2009 calendar year, the result of chronic use by the mother during her pregnancy. This constitutes an increase of nearly 500% since the year 2000, according to the researchers.

Babies Born Addicted to Drugs
Opioid Painkillers
The condition of a baby being born addicted to drugs initially absorbed in-utero is known as neonatal abstinence syndrome. This is essentially a term for withdrawal symptoms, only rather than afflicting a recovering drug addict instead afflict a newborn baby, with symptoms such as seizures, tremors, respiratory troubles, vomiting and trouble holding-down food.

In an editorial accompanying the study, researchers bemoan the fact that treatment options have improved very little since 2000. However, when it comes to opioid addiction, the best treatment is prevention.

Here are two ways pregnant women can treat moderate-to-severe pain from pregnancy and other injuries or conditions without running the risk of becoming addicted to opioid painkillers used to treat pain:
Prenatal Cradle - Maternity Support
Prenatal Cradle
  1. Maternity Supports and Belts - Wearing a maternity support or maternity belt during pregnancy can help to ease the stress on the mother of having another human being growing inside her. While not the be-all, end-all, some of these, such as the patented Prenatal Cradle, have received rave reviews from customers who claim that the difference in the amount of noticeable pain is significant to say the least. However, not all products marketed to help relieve pain due to pregnancy are the same, and some work better than others. The main thing is to find one that is right for the user's individual body, shape and stage of pregnancy.

  2. Drug-free topical pain relievers such as Ben-Gay and the harder-to-find but more effective Biofreeze are a great alternative to both over-the-counter and prescription pain relievers and pain killers. Plus, these products do not contain addictive chemicals such as the opioids, nor liver-destroying chemicals such as acetaminophen (the generic name for the active ingredient in Tylenol).

When it comes the health of your baby, no step is of too little importance to take. With the rapidly expanding number of mothers giving birth to drug-addicted babies, it may be time for a closer look at some alternatives to conventional methods of treating paid, particularly for women who are pregnant.

Anti-Embolism Stockings Now On-Sale

For a limited time, customers will be able to purchase high-quality anti-embolism stockings from Egan Medical at well below 50% of the normal price. The stockings are manufactured by BSN Jobst, a company widely regarded as one of the world's premiere makers of compression stockings and anti-embolism products.

Anti-Embolism Stockings
$12.95/pair only at Egan Medical!
Egan Medical has slashed prices on the stockings from $27.00 for each pair to just $12.95 per pair purchased! These unprecedented savings won't last long, so customers are urged to act now while the offer is still available.

The major difference between anti-embolism and traditional compression stockings is that anti-embolism stockings are used primarily in post-surgical patients, and are used to aide venous and lymphatic drainage of the legs following surgery.

End-user consumers aren't the only ones who can benefit from this incredible sale. The $12.95 price tag is less than many retailers pay to purchase the items wholesale, and Egan won't discriminate between buyers regardless of whether the customer is an end-user consumer or another retailer looking to take advantage of the once-in-a-lifetime sale prices.

No date has been announced for the end of the sale. Egan Medical executive director Peter Egan has indicated the sale will likely last for approximately one month, but cautioned that consumers shouldn't wait to act, as the prices will be offered on a first-come, first-serve basis while supplies last.

If supplies are exhausted in three days, the sale will end then. However, pending demand, Egan may opt to extend sale prices for up to 30 days or more depending upon how long the amount of inventory set aside for this special sale lasts.

The bottom line is that anyone in need of anti-embolism stockings should hurry over to EganMedical.com and take advantage of the world's best prices on these extremely high-quality compression therapy products.

Welcome to the Egan Medical Equipment Blogspot Log

Welcome to the Egan Medical Equipment and Supply Blogger Blog!

In case you're wondering, this is an official blog of Egan Medical Equipment and Supply. You did read that correctly. This is AN official blog of Egan Medical, not necessarily THE official blog of Egan Medical, although for the time being, this will be one of the places we post product updates, deals, coupons, special discounts, news about the company and any relevant news or updates about the medical equipment/supply industry in general.

We will not necessarily post the same information to each blog, nor will each be utilized for the same purposes. We may in the future create product and/or category-specific blogs so that customers who are only interested in a particular product line will have a blog entirely devoted to that subject to go to in order to look for deals or research product information.

We do recognize that most companies have a single blog that serves as THE official blog of that particular company. Well, here at Egan, we intend to do things our own way, and that entails publishing official material on behalf of the company to a number of different blogs and sites, including our primary blog (yet to be created), which will be eventually found at http://blog (dot) EganMedical (dot) com. Once created, the one located on a subdomain of EganMedical.com will be our most formal weblog. That said, there is an appropriate time and place for formality, and then there is also an appropriate time and place for a more casual approach.

Why are we doing this?

The people who make up the company you know as Egan Medical have decided that a non-traditional approach to blogging best suits our business model. We will post coupons, deals, discounts and other rewards programs to various blogs. It will be up to you, the customer, to be diligent in keeping up so as to ensure you get the best savings possible.

In that sense, it's sort of like a game of 'Hide-and-Seek', only we're not necessarily hiding anything, just spreading it out across a variety of publishing platforms as opposed to one place. However, much like the game, when the customer "finds" the coupon, deal or discount for the specific product(s) he or she wishes to buy, that customer "wins" the "game".

It's designed to make it a little bit more fun for you the consumer, as well as convenient in the case of those blogs catered to individual product categories such as mobility equipment. A person who has diabetes may prefer to read a blog entirely dedicated to Egan's products for diabetics (and other useful and informative news and information about diabetes) than a blog about all sorts of different topics, including but not limited to diabetes. This person may not want to have to sort through pages upon pages about rollators and mobility scooters if their purpose for being there (the blog) is to read about diabetes or find ways to save on diabetic supplies such as Sensifoot Diabetic Socks.

We're going to make public where exactly we blog, and we will be posting different discounts, coupons and deals to each respective blog, with the goal of engaging our customers in a sort of game in which those customers who are the most dedicated in keeping up-to-date with our announcements reap the biggest rewards in terms of savings and in some cases giveaways.

To the best of our collective knowledge, this is not an approach that has been tried by any company we are aware of, and we'll find out sooner rather than later how well it's working out. The idea behind it is to make it fun for customers to save money by staying abreast of what we're publishing and where, so as to reap in the biggest rewards.

The only way to know what types of rewards we have in mind is to check back here at this blog early and often, and take not of when we announce any other blogs we may launch at various points in the future.

The Other Reason

The other reason we're deploying this particular approach is that we will likely be creating a number of blogs specific to our different product lines, so that customers who are interested in a particular line of products can get the information they're looking for without having to sort through loads of material that is irrelevant to that individual's particular interest.

For example, we may dedicate a blog specifically for mobility equipment, another for orthopedic-related topics (such as a wrist brace for carpal tunnel syndrome), and yet another for vitamins, supplements and nutrition-related topics. That way, customers who are only interested in a say, vitamin D supplements, won't have to read about the benefits of raised toilet seats before finding the information about the benefits of vitamin D, or a coupon to save money when buying vitamin D supplements.

Anyway, we will NOT be hiding any of our web logs, so you'll be informed of any and all that we may or may not create in the future, and you can choose whether or not you'd like to follow one, some or all of them.

Until further notice, this will be the primary blog for major company and product-related announcements.
